Survivor 45’s finale episode hit screens on December 20. After almost a month living on a Fijian island, the show’s 18 contestants were whittled down to just one winner. The Sole Survivor not only bags a cool new title, but a life-changing sum of money. The contestant landing in second place wins a cash prize, too.
Jeff Probst was oozing excitement when he introduced fans to the Survivor 45 finale episode on Wednesday night. He revealed five contestants remained – Dee, Julie, Katura, Austin, and Jake. The CBS show’s participants had some tough decisions to make as the finale loomed. Some had to overlook their personal relationships as episode 13 arrived.
How much does second place win on Survivor?
Any contestant heading onto Survivor is obviously there to win. But, for the finalists who end up in second and third place on the reality TV show, there’s still a huge sum of money up for grabs.
The contestant finishing in second place bags $100,000, and whoever ends up in third place receives $85,000, per Entertainment Weekly.
There’s a sum of $2,500 for the contestants who are voted off the show before they reach the final.

A whopping $1 million is up for grabs on CBS’ Survivor.
In 2020, a special of the series, Survivor: Winners at War, aired to mark the show’s fortieth season. The prize fund was doubled to $2 million for season 40, but it reverted back to $1 million in following series.
As Survivor 45 comes to an end this December, many fans are taking to social media to ask why the prize fund hasn’t changed with inflation.
When the reality series first began in 2000 the prize fund was still the same as it is now.
One fan tweeted via X (Twitter): “The one thing inflation hasn’t affected in the last 23 years? The $1 million prize for winning #Survivor.”
Another said: “Isn’t it time to update the prize money? It’s been two decades and inflation in the last year alone…”
