Thompson Center Arms was an American firearms company based in Springfield, Massachusetts. Thompson Center was foundered by K.W. Thompson Tool “AND” Warren Center, in 1956; 58 years ago.
Warren Center developed an unusual break-action, single-shot pistol in his basement workshop in the 1960s that became known as the Contender. The original Contender, was known as the generation G1 Contender soon after the Encore came out.
The Thompson Center Company was best known for its line of interchangable-barrel, single-shot pistols and rifles. The Thompson Center was been purchased by Smith ”AND” Wesson, on January 4, 2007. Thompson Center’s success started with the emergence of long range handgun hunting, target shooting and especially, metallic silhouette shooting. In 1983, the Encore was released.
The Encore uses a different trigger mechanism, designed to be stronger than the original Contender’s and to make the break-action easier to open.
