1. Focus on your horse / Remove the saddle / Stand next to your new horse / Equip the saddle
The first part of this mission will teach you how to transfer a saddle from your horse to another, and thus how to make it your new horse.
2. Mount your horse / Follow Hosea
Get on your new horse and follow Hosea to the stable in Valentine.
3. Take the horse into the stable / Sell or Stable the horse / Buy a new horse
Go inside the stable. Inside you will be greeted by a horse trader.
You will be able to decide whether you want to sell your horse or stable it. Stabling your horse allows you to store it at the stables so you can access it later. If you sell the horse you will be paid the sell price.
Buy a new horse.
4. Mount your horse / Follow Hosea
Get on your horse and continue your journey to the hunting site with Hosea.
At some point, Hosea will ask you to hunt down a rabbit.
5. Hunt a rabbit / Pick up the rabbit / Go to Hosea
Go to the place where the rabbits are located and shoot one. You can use any weapon you like but, as Hosea suggests, the best one is a bow.
Pick up the carcass of a shot rabbit and go back to Hosea.
It'll turn late and you'll be asked to set up a camp.
6. Select Camp from the Crafting slot and set up a camping site
7. Cook the rabbit / Eat the rabbit / Cook another rabbit / Stow the cooked rabbit
View the crafting menu, select the plain game recipe, cook and eat the rabbit. Then you can exit the crafting menu or cook another rabbit and then eat or stow it. If you want to earn a gold medal, then you should leave the crafting menu after cooking and eating the first rabbit.
8. Choose the time to sleep until / Sleep
After you cooked and ate the rabbit, you're gonna have to go to sleep.
You will wake up in the morning and after drinking your morning coffee Hosea will ask you for help in preparing the bait for the bear.
9. Craft Potent Predator Bait / Tear down your camp
View the crafting menu, select the potent predator bait recipe, craft one Potent Predator Bait, and then tear down your camp.
10. Mount your horse / Follow Hosea
Get on your horse and follow Hosea until you reach the lake where you can start tracking the bear. Hosea will tell you to look around for clues.
11. Activate the Eagle Eye to find the trail / Follow the trail / Investigate the clues
Activate Eagle Eye, look for the trail, and follow it to find the clues marked by an orange "sparkles". The clues are Bear Pawprints, Half-Eaten Fish, and Bear Dung.
After the third clue the trail will go cold, and Hosea will ask if you should split up or use the bait.
12. Search the hill for the bear's trail / Get back to Hosea
If you decided to split up, you'd have to search the hill. Activate Eagle Eye and follow the trail until you find another half-eaten fish.
When you examine it, you will hear Hosea's calling for help. Return to him as soon as you can and you will face the bear.
13. Plant the bait near the large stones / Go to the rocks / Wait for the bear / Follow Hosea / Inspect the bait
If you decided to use the bait then you have to approach the place where you should lay the bait, open the satchel, select the potent predator bait and place it.
Then go back behind some rocks and wait.
After a few seconds, Hosea will go to check on the bait, go with him and investigate the bait.
Soon after that, a bear will show up.
14. Shoot the bear
If you have your revolver ready, then it should be easy to make at least 6 bullets hit the bear and thus meet one of the requirements to earn a gold medal.
This time you're not going to kill the bear that's gonna run away after a while.
15. Go to Hosea
Find Hosea, who is hiding behind a big rock. He will give you a map with marked locations of legendary animals - you'll find it in your satchel.
The last decision you will have to make is whether to go back to the camp with Hosea or stay where you are. The mission will be completed.
